🛑 Road Safety Strategy Welcomed — and Why It Matters to Us at 1st Bus Stop
📢 Safety Matters!
As a company that values safety, professionalism, and high standards across every journey we operate, we welcome the UK Government’s recently announced Road Safety Strategy, backed by respected industry bodies such as the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) and Road Haulage Association (RHA).
The new strategy aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads by 65% by 2030 and includes key proposals such as:
A consultation on graduated licensing for young and novice drivers
Introduction of a minimum eyesight standard
Lowering of the drink-drive limit in England and Wales
Expanded use of drug-driving enforcement technology
Stronger education, enforcement and design standards
These steps are not just headlines — they impact us, our drivers, and our passengers every single day.
Why This Matters to 1st Bus Stop
We know how vital our role is in keeping local communities moving safely. From school contracts to day trips and rail replacement services, our vehicles are on the roads daily — and we take our safety record seriously.
Our newly appointed Driver Development & Safety Manager, Simon Wells, is already building on this momentum. With years of experience in training and safety audits across the sector, Simon’s role is to enhance our accident prevention efforts and continuous driver training — perfectly aligned with the national strategy’s focus on safer driving practices and data-led improvements.
Industry Voices Align
Alison Edwards, CPT’s Director of Policy, praised the plan’s focus on “reducing the risk for all road users” and highlighted how important it is to keep working in partnership with government to ensure these improvements are meaningful and workable across the bus and coach sector.
Similarly, RHA Managing Director Richard Smith added:
“We fully support efforts to make journeys safer and welcome the Government’s ambition to reduce road deaths by 65% by 2030.”
These ambitions reflect what we aim to do every day at 1st Bus Stop: deliver reliable, safe, and respectful transport — with continuous improvement baked into our operations.
Our Promise to You
As this strategy rolls out nationally, 1st Bus Stop will continue to:
Invest in modern, compliant vehicles
Promote a culture of continuous learning and safety among our drivers
Support wider industry collaboration on technology, enforcement and training
Hold ourselves to the highest operational standards, from compliance to care
We’re proud to be part of a sector that is stepping up. And we thank our staff, customers, and partners for supporting our commitment to safe and sustainable passenger transport.
Let’s keep raising the bar — and making Britain’s roads safer for all. 👊
